GORRILLA TREKKING IN RWANDA UHURU.
After visiting the gorillas in their natural habitats, a trip to Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park leaves you speechless and inspires you to share stories. In addition to gorillas, the Volcanoes National Park also has other primates like chimpanzees and golden monkeys, which attract lots of visitors for treks. The mountain gorillas can be located all over the country in Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo. In Rwanda particularly, the mountain gorillas can be found in the volcanoes national park, which can be reached from Kigali in 2 hours and 18 minutes if there is no traffic.
The earliest national park on the African continent is Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, which was first designated as a national park in 1925.To keep thieves away from the mountain gorillas, it was gazzeted. The national park of mountains was expanded from Rwanda into Congo in 1925.This park, which is located in northwest Rwanda, includes five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga mountains, including Kirisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura Gahinga, and Sabinyo. It also contains 160 km2 of rain forest. It borders the national parks of Virunga in the Congo and Mgahinga in Uganda. Mountain gorillas and golden monkeys call it home, and dian Fossey used it as a headquarters while studying primates.
Trekking mountain gorillas in the volcanoes national park
You will only leave footprints and take only memories on this portion of the trek. On the slopes of the Virunga volcanoes, in Rwanda’s volcanoes national park, live over twenty mountain gorilla families, totaling about 280 gorillas. Of the twenty families, twelve are viewed, with ten families being visited daily. It is also known that the gorillas in Rwanda are split into two groups, one for studies and the other for conservation. The Beets Me and Pablo’s Shidas are two of these organizations, and they are home to the most gorillas. Additionally, there are ten gorilla families, all of which exist solely for touristic reasons. Ugenda Umubano, Susa Group, Karisimbi, Sabinyo, hirwa, Amahoro, Bwengye, the Agasha Group, and the Kwitonda are a few of these tribes.
The Susa gorilla trek
The name of this group, which was studied by Dian Fossey, comes from the river Susa that once flowed through the mountain gorillas’ natural habitat. Every traveler to Rwanda might want to see this lovely family once they arrive. However, due to their remote location in the mountains, tourists find it more difficult to trek them, making them the most challenging family to reach.
With a family size of 28 gorillas and three silverbacks, this group is very intriguing. Many visitors are drawn to this group because of its twins, the impano and the byishimo, who are more attractive and playful. Here, visitors can watch Nyabitondore, the twins’ mother, care for them by nursing them and transporting them.
The sabinyo gorilla group safari
This group is readily accessible, and it is well known that it is led by the powerful silverback known as guhonda. This silver back is incredibly large, impressive, and enormous. Sabyino is the gorilla family with the fewest individuals among the others.
The word Sabyino comes from the volcano with the same name, which literally translates as “the teeth of the old man.”
Amahoro gorilla tours
The word “amahoro” simply means “peace,” so the amahoro gorilla tours are an organization that values peace. The silverback has seventeen individuals, including two adult females, two juveniles, two subadult males, and five babies. Later, the Charles-led ubumwe family gained members at the expense of Amahoro ape.
Umubano gorilla safari group
This collection of eleven people—which includes a silverback, a subadult male, three adult females, and six babies—means neighborliness. Initially, Umubano belonged to the Amahoro group, but after some time, they split off and joined Charles’s powerful silverback group, Ubumwe. Over time, Charles developed into an adult silverback, just like Ubumwe. He then made the decision to engage in combat and was ultimately identified as Ubumwe. After a lengthy struggle, Charles was able to defeat a few of the ladies from Ubumwe, leading to the formation of a group. Since then, there have only been conversations and respect rather than fights.
Ugende family gorilla adventure
Since the family was continually moving from one location to another, the name “ugenda family gorilla adventure” means “on the move.” As a result, it would be very challenging for the guests to locate this family because it would not remain in one location. These gorillas and silverbacks reside in the Karisimbi region of Rwanda.
Bwenge gorillas in the mist trek.
There are 11 people in this household, all of whom have silver backs. This group, which can be located on the Karisoke volcano’s slopes, has encountered many difficulties, including the loss of six infants. However, with two successful births in the last couple of years and a powerful silver back leader, this group is growing stronger. This 3-hour group hike is quite difficult and requires a lot of energy. This is due to the steep, muddy, and slippery paths. The group was founded in 2007 after the silverback Bwenge abandoned his birth group and was joined by other females from other gorilla groups. Bwenge served as the group’s leader.
Hirwa group trekking
This merely refers to having good fortune. Nine people make up the Hirwa group, including one silverback, three adult females, two subadult females, and three infants. Despite the fact that it is the newest gorilla organization, it is nonetheless powerful and protects its members well.
Karisimbi family gorilla trek
This family, which is now known as a Susa b or the karisimbi group, is known to have split off from the Susa family. For those who enjoy and are excellent at hiking, the Karisimbi group is a good choice. The family, which consists of 15 members, is typically located on the slopes of Rwanda’s highest summit, Mount Karisimbi. Therefore, it appears that this family established its residence in the higher mountain of the Karisimbi caldera, making it challenging for tourists to climb and locate the gorillas for trekking.
Kwitonda family gorilla adventure
Only 18 people make up the group, which is headed by the kwitonda silverback. This moniker translates as the lowly one. Two silverbacks and a blackback are members of the household. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, this family relocated too far, making it difficult and difficult for tourists to trek there.
NOTE; Sabinyo Silver Back Lodge is a suggested place to stay if you’re interested in seeing and trekking mountain gorillas in their natural habitats. It’s only a 15-minute drive from the volcanoes national park headquarters, where the gorilla trek begins.
The trek begins at 7 am at the headquarters and begins with a briefing about safety measures, rules, and proper gorilla trekking etiquette. This briefing is attended by the tour guide, who has previous experience with jungle treks. After that, you will hike into the forest to trek mountain gorillas; each trek should have no more than 8 people; once you encounter the primates, keep your distance and avoid shouting, mimicking, and tossing food at them. The tour guide will point out the gorillas’ footprints as you walk, enabling you to quickly locate and approach them where they are grazing. It is not guaranteed that you will discover these primates when you first set out on your journey, so finding them will depend on luck. After a short to moderately long trek, you will be able to spend over an hour with these primates relaxing with them and experiencing their native habitats.
